I agree, however, a filter is not going to solve the radiator crimp issue.
No, but the engine block in our trucks (CGI) were cast with sand in the manufacturing process, I'm sure all of it wasn't removed. Also, he's has 4 failures, there is going to be something in the coolant system from the failures when they change everything out, so you now have that, whatever it is circulating through you system.
I still don't understand this at all. I have 115000 with no leaks. Live on a back dirt road in for 1 mile with lot's of pot holes at times. Tow a small 3500lb trailer all over the cities. Tow a 4000lb plus truck camper around during the summer.
Capt - I was just curious as there was a youtube video of someone that had gone through a bunch of radiators in a dually, but they were pulling greater than rated for the vehicle loads over uneven/steep dirt roads.
My friend raves about the Evans waterless coolant. The only reason I mention this is because you drill a very small hole in the de-gas cap because there is zero pressure in the cooling system. It seems that would have much less tendency to cause radiator leaks. This is what I heard.
Mishimoto is installed! What a quality piece this thing is. The video they have to install this thing is top notch and made installing a piece of cake. $1100 is cheaper than having the dealer install the Ford piece of crap and I should not have to worry about the radiator leaking again. Thank for the advice.
Wow, 211,000 miles and the third radiator that was put in this truck is leaking!! Has there been a recall or has anybody heard of ford stepping up to help pay for these things. This is not right. I haven't even had the truck five years and this will be over 5 grand in radiators. Is a person suppose to budget an extra grand a year if they want to own a ford diesel? What a joke!!!! Sorry to hear about your issue with factory radiator failure. Although less widespread than the 6.4L, the 6.7L trucks seem to also have issues keeping the stock radiator intact for any measureable amount of time.

How many of these do you think Ford sells a year, That's a tidy little profit for them. I like my superduty's but come on with the radiators already.

Taking my 2012 f250 in to get the bad news. I've milked it to 78,000, but just tired of cleaning the spot that's getting worse.

This thread, I could change Ford to Jeep TJ. Another vehicle noted for issues with its crimped radiator.
I find both puzzling would enjoy seeing pics of where the leaks occurred. I knew guys with Jeep TJ's that replaced their rads like they were changing socks.
On the flip side I put almost 100,000 mi on my Jeep TJ with most of that driving to off road locations year round over 8 years across SW from Tx to Ca. I also ran a supercharger on top the motor and while many I knew had heat issues in stock form my crimped radiator never leaked, and I ran the AC off road. I would spend a couple of weeks every year in Death Valley and never had an issue.
I am on my 3rd F 350 and outside of the time they had to a complete erase and reload of software on my ECM I have never had any major issues and pray I don't. 2 of my F 350's were trucks I owned when I lived in Phoenix.
4 bad rads in a row! Yes that is excessive by any standards. My question would be where did you buy the replacement rads? Same location? If so, I would ask how often and how many rads do they sell for your model of truck per year out of that location and do they normally stock rads. If so how many do they order at a time, bulk or on a as needed basis. I am trying to see if they got in a bad batch and you managed to get most of them.
If not a bad batch, who installed the rad in your truck, by dealer and by mech? Any god mech knows enough tricks to make a component fail over time.
Something is WRONG here and with 4 failures of the same type of failure I would look at other things as the cause.
I went with Dad in 1954 to a Chevy dealer to buy a used truck. On the way home the truck over heated due to a hole in the radiator. We were in eye shot of a service station. Dad walked over to a mesquite tree, cut a small twig, and put it in the hole of that rad.
Dad sold that truck over 20 years and 200,000+ miles later. The guy that bought it asked if there was anything wrong with the truck other than old and burning oil. Dad said no, but the rad has a hole in it and there is a handful of mesquite twigs in the glove box to sharpen and shove in the hole when the current twig rots. The guy asked how long how it been that way? Dad said little over 20 years and I replace that twig about twice a year...those were the good old days...
Just got the bad news pressure check failed radiator leaking lower driver side Wow who would have known. And the service rep acted like he has never heard of this problem before I will be messaging Crystal about this I guess in the meantime I'll pick it up and add antifreeze is needed
I called the service rep back and he said he is going to start a claim unsure of what that means. So would it still help to contact Crystal? Would it not help to get a extended warranty now and take it back in at a later date?
