I was working on my truck this evening because it has been dieseling when I shut it down. I noticed a vacuum connection that was wide open with no hose on it. I could not find a hose that came off of it anywhere
Looking through the Haynes manual did not reveal any information about the connection.
It is coming out of the intake manifold to the left of the carb. This large fitting is hexagon shaped so you can get a wrench on it. Out of one end is a 1/2" dia. hose that goes to the Vacuum boost behind the master cylinder. Out the side of this fitting is a small tube that is where I am talking about, nothing is hooked to it and when I close it with my finger my truck idles smother.
Any ideas where this connection is supposed to go???
About that "mystery" vacuum port. If your truck has an automatic transmission odds are that is where the line from the vacuum modulator would go. Unless, of course, the vacuum tree you are describing happens to have more than one small port plus the large port going to the brake booster. In which case the modulator line would go to the most accessable of the small ports. If your truck has a manual transmission then the "mystery" port most likely had a small rubber cap on it that either, believe it or not, fell off or more likely was forced off during hard accelleration. Because it's an FE, I'm betting on the second choice. Hope this helped.
