Usually it's the mechanical side that gets hung open and won't build 500 psi to start. I usually get a screen kit, pull the screen off and push in the plunger under the screen in the ipr and flush with brake cleaner. Also blow out with a blow gun then replace your screen. I have seen several instances where the screen in perfectly intact, and the valve has a piece of garbage in it. Usually caused from a ruptured hpop intake screen or a broken oil filter standpipe.
thank you for the reply. I did get a screen kit for it and I will try as you suggested. I was wondering if 12v was applied to it the cranked the engine while watching the IPR on A.E if it would give you any indication ?
EDIT : You should see pressure. Just make sure that you pull the FICM relay
Don't want it to start and really throw high pressure at things.
You have to be careful doing that. You won't have any pressure
regulation. The test is usually to remove the ICP and place a air
line on and then power the IPR and listed for air leaking. 03 and
early 04 can be a bear with the ICP sensor hidden under the turbo.
It's possible to check the solenoid side of the IPR with a multimeter.
Pull out the middle PCM connector and ohm out pin #2 of the PCM connector (yellow with red stripe coloured wire) to the positive terminal of the driver side battery at key-on/engine-off. A good IPR should read about 6.0 ohms.
