AIR CONDITIONER

My E99 air conditioner is acting up. At start up it will run some days, at other times it won't. When it wont work, I can leave it on high and within 5-20 minutes it will come on. Does this sound like a fualty switch or bad connection. How much of a chore is it to access behind dash? It will be getting hot soon and I need to get this cured. Any help will be appreciated.

A good place to start is to check the charge level. When the system is in it's failure mode you can TEMPORARILY jump the pressure switch on the accumulator and see if the compressor starts. If so, you are either low on refrigerant or the pressure switch is bad.

You might want to put a pressure gauge on the system to see what you got for pressure!! Just might need some juice aka that gold they call freon nowdays!! Dang he beat to the punch!!!!

Mine didn't work and they said it took like 4.5 liters? compared to 1.5 for most cars. Plus oil. Ran me about $240. Ouch

I should've said blower not running instead of air conditioner. I can feel cold air and not much circulation when I set it to A/C. When I switch to Max A/C I get no fan at all and no cold air at all. If I leave it on the max setting and keep driving, then it will randomly come on when it feels like it. Does this sound like a switch problem?

It sounds like a relay or resistor problem

Not sure what fuse but I'd start finding the fuse for the fan blower motor first, it might be blown then checking the fan blower itself. I've experenced blowerless cold air in other vehicles and it was either a fuse or the blower, check those first.

In light of the new information you provided I can tell you that the dashboard blower speed switch on the vans seems to be weak. I have a buddy who runs a couple of E series vans in his tile business and he has replaced the speed control switches more than once.

On edit I see you mean early 99 not e series. I am still betting on the blower switch.
