Should I replace power steering pump?

So, I'm replacing the Steering Box today and read an article that said you should replace the pump at the same time. what do you all think?? I have clear access to it now and they are not all that expensive?? Or are the ford one's bullet proof and leave it alone???

I don't have any leaks and it feels ok I guess..just pushing close to 200K on it.

My power steering pump had a come apart at 160k. So it might be a good idea to replace it.

This is on the list of things to do this weekend. Did you get an answer from anybody about the pump or did you just change it.

Just make sure you change the high pressure line coming out the side of the pump. That's the most common failure part of the steering system that I've seen.

How'd this end up? Did you replace the hose or the pump or both?

I just replaced the Pump and the Gear Box...

The good is that the Slop is gone...the bad is that I now have a whine from the pump. I bled it..drove it 200 miles, blah blah blah..It's the pump. At least it's not hard to replace and has a lifetime warranty..So I'm going to drive it for the summer and replace it "again" in the winter..Maybe I'll replace the High Pressure Oil line at that time.
Replacing it was straight forward...Just take out the battery box, the Intake and also the IC pipe. Oh and duh, the serpentine belt.

To bleed it..I found it easier to just turn the new pump by hand until the oil level doesn't drop any more and all the air bubbles stop..Then put the belt on a start it turning the wheel lock to lock a few times, pumping the brakes then top off.

Just lost my power steering yesterday. Got it all torn down. Turned out that the high pressure hose rubbed through on the shock mount. Planning to replace pump and hoses thisweek.

I zip tied a small piece of extra fuel line I had to act as a cushion between the power steering line and shock mount the last time I replaced it.

Just curious if you used mercon atf or power steering fluid?? Read a lot about the flush and fill and found that I've been topping off with power steering fluid when I should have been using atf.

Right behind you on my pump change out.

Mercon ATF only!!! Flush that power steering fluid out.

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
