carb problems 351w
i have an 81 f350 with a 351w, idles good in park but as soon as i put it in drive it idles roughly .... low and rough for about 2 seconds then extreemly high for about 1/2 second then back to low and so on ..... smooths out after im up to speed...
can anyone help me..?

put plugs in yesterday along with a new fuel line, filter, fresh oil & oil filter also, has recent cap and rotor. dont have timing light so didnt set timing, could this be the problem? in regards to vacuum leak , i have a soft brake petal , could vacuum be being lost thru bad brake booster and causing idle problems?

Usually a vac leak through the booster results in a hard pedal, so that can probably be ruled out. You may want to rebuild the carb and replace the base gasket. The rebuild kit for the Autolite/Motorcraft carbs is around $13, and the job itself is relatively easy. There very well may be some crud in the carb, possibly in the idle air bleed circuit.
