I have a 53 F250 that has been changed over to 12V with no brake lights. It has an old Signal-Stat turn signal set up with emergency flasher that works but I can't find a model number. The PO installed fender top turn signals in front and flush mount tail lights under the tail gate with stud mount turn signals on the bumpers in the rear. Looks like he used 2 wire trailer lights (one hot and one ground) with dual filament bulbs all around. After poking around I found the brake switch wire hanging in the breeze and it is hot when I hit the brake. So now to the question.....How do I hook the brake light wire to the existing tail light when there is only one wire coming out of the receptacle. Or...do I need to run the brake light wire back thru the Signal-Stat. Or...do I need to find a 3 wire tail light receptacle. Thanks....

Trailers are green right signal yellow left signal brown running lights. your 1157 bulbs sends the signal filament the brake lights so you can drive at night.
How many wires coming out of the SignalStat? Some of them were made to be completely independent of the existing tail/brake lights. It sounds like that is the kind you have.
Ross is correct. In addition, most tail lamps have two wires for the two filaments and ground is through the body. You might check that if the lamps are designed to use an 1157 offset pin bulb.

I have three wires attached to the Signal-Stat, red/yellow/green or brown. Also there are three terminals on the turn signal lever switch.
I had the same problem with my truck. It always had separate turn and brake lights. I have a signal stat turn signal mechanism. When I got my truck painted I tried to put the stop, tail, and turns al in one light. I couldn't get it done, try as I might. So I got my old turn signals and made a bracket and used them for turn signals. I think it is a good thing as I think it gives tailgaters more warning that I am slowing down and/or turning.

Okay...so the signal stat is not the issue. The two filament bulbs are actually offset pin bulbs but 2057"s? It looks like the PO made a mistake and used the second filament wire as an unnecessary ground meaning all I need to do is wire the master cylinder pressure brake switch to, what is now the ground wire, and I should be good to go.
