I like to air down my tires when I go fourwheeling. It makes for a more comfortable ride, provides better grip, etc. What is a safe pressure to drop down to? I've been dropping to around 30 PSI front and rear. My truck is in my signature. Any thoughts? I dont want to pop a tire off the bead ( I do not have bead locks) This is for cruising trails, and some small sandy hills
Each tire manufacturer includes slightly different technology when it comes to tire beads, sidewall construction, materials, etc. So one tire might hold down to a certain pressure, but another won't.
Your wheels also play a role, as some wheels just don't hold a bead as well as others.
Generally you can go down 20% of the sidewall psi rating. But as Pocket said its tricky based upon all the things he mentioned.
Add to that lot depends upon where you go. High traction surfaces such as sandstone can peel a tire off a rim in a heartbeat. Lower tire pressures do not like hard lateral loads such as off camber driving. If you are going to wheel it, you may want to think about a set of beadlocks. I ran them for years and typically ran them at about 5 psi.
