Have my '83 van w/ the 300 inline 6 about half torn apart in the driveway changing the stock 1bbl setup to 4bbl with the Offenhauser dual port intake. Already have the suggested Holley 4bbl carb [390 cfm model 8007], but while searching the forum [old posts] this a.m. saw mention that Holley 4bbl carbs won't fit [it is tight in there]. The poster mentioned having to use a 2bbl w/ adapter or a carter 4bbl. Anyone know if this is correct?? Don't care to get that new $279 carb greasy and unreturnable.
Also have a set of stock split EFI exhaust manifolds [no one makes headers to fit a 6-300 van]. Anyone know the best place to find a stock Y-pipe, or should I try and get a muffler shop to fab one up?? No cats here, so most shops won't touch it. Any suggestions.
Got the intake on and the Holley 8007 just **BARELY** fits with maybe 1/8" clearance before hitting the insulation blanket on the firewall. Still have to rig up brackets for throtle & return spring, and figure out how to mount the stock AT kickdown linkage bracket as the Offy intake has no bosses cast in.
Yes Cliff*** does have headers that fit my van...for $300! Already have the stock EFI split manifolds, just need to get a Y pipe made up.
Called Hedman yesterday and their tec guy said their truck headers won't fit the van, any idea if the Blackjack/Cyclones will??? The Blackjacks are cheap enought I could swing those.
good luck, I had to modify a throttle bracket i bought at the local autoparts store to get my throttle working.. it had a kick down mount. but I dont think it would work with a ford, unless you got a lokar cable kickdown
ok 83 van how is the 4bbl conversion going on your van? tell us the horror stories, like having to make extra clearance with a hammer?kickdown and throttle linkage hookup.and the big one how to fab a air cleaner housing to fit this setup? because i am the next victim for this need more power mod! i will be ordering parts this week.
