Well after being at the redneck, green toothed mechanic for 3 weeks - my 1990 F150 still doesn't run. However, Green teeth (sorry, i'm a bit testy at this feller') has managed to narrow down the possibilities to a toast computer.
I guess my dumb question is - if the injectors are not pulsing, does that signal a bad computer?
I would check the Hall effect sensor in the distributor, It could also be the ignition modual. Do you have spark? The ECM gets injector timing off of the hall effect sensor.
I guess the mechanic got spark, we replaced the Ignition Module and the Pickup coil. He ordered me a new computer, 170 bucks. I've never heard of the hall effect sensor before, my Haynes Manual doesn't include it.
Haynes (and Ford) calls it the Profile Ignition Pickup (PIP), and it's what tells the computer that the engine is turning AND when a cylinder gets ready to fire.
Before you pay Green Teeth for the new EEC, print out this thread and make him pull the codes while you watch. If the computer puts out codes, it does NOT need to be replaced (unless it gives 998). There's a link in that thread to the full code list, so print that out, too. The Haynes manual shows how to trace down each code - DON'T just start buying parts because they happen to be mentioned in a code definition.
