How does one get the air out of it then?

Find the place that isn't sealing. Could be a fuel line/return line/etcetera. With the number of miles on your 7.3, new lines and seals in the fuel bowl would probably be a good thing to do, anyway.

Update

I pulled the little plastic finned round thing on the middle of the motor which is the fuel bowl cover. And HOLY COW there is a helluva Lotta fuel in there. So much I can't put the filter back down in without it over flowing. Is this Normal?

That's pretty standard. The bowl is supposed to be pretty darned full.

Put a wide drain pan under the engine, and drain the fuel bowl via the yellow release lever. DON'T FORGET to close the release again (don't ask me [or actually my wife...] why I say this....). Then re-install the filter. It'll take some extra cranking to start it next time, but it won't be as big a mess.

If you want to be anally neat about it, you can find the end of the drain pipe and put a piece of hose on the end of it, so it can go into a bucket or whatever in a nice tidy stream.

Well I drained it and there is some crud for sure... how do I clean it really good?

Edit : cleaned it good with mineral spirits and wiped it all down Good. Left lever open while running for a sec to flush. Then closed lever. No change.

I pulled the bowl out, and used brake parts cleaner, because it will evaporate fully. That said, clean is clean. Did you check the screen between the bowl, and the FPR(Fuel Pressure Regulator)? That's one more thing to try first.

No? I cleaned the top round part with a little wire going around it very carefully. How does one get below it? I see the screen edit

And I sprayed cleaner into it, a lot of cleaner.

Some guys have used a Q tip and carefully cleaned that screen.

If you already got it clean, there's no reason to get under. All that's down there is a couple of fuel lines, and the pump that's behind it. The only real reason to get under is to pull the bowl, which entails undoing several lines, and I think 2 bolts from the bottom.

Like Oldbird mentioned, the screen can be cleaned gently, or if it's severely damaged, Riffraff sells a rebuild kit that would include a new one.

If you say it's fine when it's clean I will leave well enough alone. Sounds like it's knocking bad when it idles... After checking all the sensors and the fuel bowl. What's left?

At this point, I couldn't really tell you. All the things I mentioned are things I've had to do to mine. Could you take a video of it idling so we can hear, or is it bad enough that you're nervous about running it?

Edit- Considered trying some kind of system cleaner? Royal purple makes a really good one. Mine idled hard when I first got it, and it really helped mine smooth out.
