Believe me if I could find the CD I would produce it and photo it. The problem is I have around 5000 CD/DVD scattered around the house. OK I admit I am a software JUNKIE, where do they hold the meetings? LMAO
The whole thing is this really has been pointless. There was an earlier version and a later version with different capabilities, what they were called or not called is irrelevant. The first versionS of IDS only worked on Ford untill 1996, pre OBDII. After OBDII was implemented a newer software and hardware[VCM2} were needed and developed and deployed.
Some day the current versions and interface will become obsolete and have to be replaced as well. Computers and computer diagnostics is constantly evolveing.
The one good thing that came out of this to me was I learned some new stuff while researching this issue. I discoverd some things that I wasn't aware of.
To me OBD is relatively new[new to me is like 10 years] but it has been in developement since 1988 and believe it or not the whole computer thing is about emmisions compliance, the Feds do not care about how else the engine performs other than it's effect on the cars emmisons. Driveability was just a side benifit the Feds had no interest in that aspect according to the articles. OBDIII already exists and was test implemented in Maryland I think it was. Political/public pressure has temporarily shelved that for now.
Shelved not gone.
You may think so what, bid deal!! Actually quite a big deal. OBDIII legislation would impower the Feds to do emmissions testing and compliance enforcement whether you wanted it or not nation wide. Supercedeing as State requirements or none. Federal regulation would supercede any other. Now do ya catch a glimmer. Tremendos potential for abuse.
To make a little more sense out of this I am first starting this post with what I wrote on another thread and topic.
They sort of do that in Japan as I understand it.
The older the engine the higher the tax on the car.
If someone knows more on this please correct me.
This is from some hearsay stuff so it can be totally wrong.
Here is an odd idea and you know that they are thinking about how
to du/use this. The new auto braking systems and how to remote
activate them when ever some LEO wants to. Next the hackers will
get it and you will see new and interesting ways of car jacking.
Personally if I want to plow into a car I don't want an auto system
getting in my way.
I have mentioned this ability in a number of my infomercials. Remote tracking and the computers ability to tattle on you is almost unbelieveable in scope.
There are companies that compile and sell this information, how much you can get depends on how much you want to spend. Over the road trucking companies some have been doing this for years. They know what the truck is doing at all times, where it is and long it has been there. Speed being traveled;how the engine is running and can even slow it down and even shut it off and disable it if stolen.
I also touched on the computer driveing the car itself. This has been done several times to a degree.
The latest article I read the US Military is funding a multi million dollar cross country race driven entirely by computer so far nobody has collected YET.
One university has completed over a 100 miles.

There's all sorts of "things" the socialist society progressives want to do to get you out of your car and into "public" transportation, the extremes of which would result in a revolt if it were happen "overnight"
Good thing is, by the time they get in place (like the scrapping of vintage cars & trucks mentioned above), you and I will no longer be capable of driving (or even walking probably!!)
Pretty unlikely that'll happen in your or my lifetime....
Don't count on that Texas some years ago almost implemented emmisiions testing.
One of the provisions was anything older than 1960 without a special licsense $$$$$ had to go[scrap]. Luckyly it met so much public resistance that it was withdrawn and never implemented. It was however passed by a narrow margin. Just withdrawn.
One of the taxes in Japan is the road tax. The larger the engine, the bigger the tax and its paid on a yearly basis. I had a 1989 Nissan Skyline, V6 single turbo. Kind of hard to open it up and have fun when the speed limit was 30k in town and 80k on the Tomei express way going to Mt Fuji. Its pretty expensive tax wise to own vehicles and parking is even harder.

I thought they already did that with heavy diesel trucks in CA now.
So you may be wonder how they will do that. Combineing the allready proven 'Weigh in motion" technology with a drive by scanner recoreder system not hard at all and cheaper than actual mannd inspections and maybe a camera system to photo the licsense plate and driver. Maybe even the PCM will identify the vehicle. My scanner can actually self discover the vin number on most vehicles. Improve that technology and there ya go.
Far fetched? Nahh Houston has had that for years. Certain intersections and stoplights and signs have a camera watching, will take a picture and automaticly issue a ticket and mail it to you if you mess up. Complete with a picture of you in the car driveing and can tell what/if you are drinking a drink or eating or talking on the phone. I am waiting for anytime now they will begin issueing tickets for talking or texting while driveing. No cop needed.
Even for speeding a automated machine rreads your speed, issues a ticket.
I know cause I have gotten a few. Your picture a print out of your speed and a summons.
I have heard that also. Is it true that they can unlock the car if you accidently lock the door. So if they can then they can also turn it off and lock the door can they not?
