I realize that these are v6 engines but they have 202hp. At the start 0 to 30 km/h the truck is useless. well, until it hits the powerband. Is this normal?
If it is,are there any aftermarket parts that helpout specifically the
bottom end torque? need all the help I can get (getting spanked by 4.3 litres)
Jr,if its got an automatic then yes they are sluggish. But at 25-30mph when the power band kicks in hang on!Hang in there, someone will come along and give you some advice.
Your prayers have been answered. I have a 1997 Ford f-150 4.2L automatic with Limo tint, flowmaster 40 series exhaust, MAC Cold Air intake with mass air flow sensor, and my biggest mod, my diablo delta stage 2 sportchip. Yes she was sluggish until about 10mph and still is a little, but when the powerband hits, this mcnasty F-150 is gone. Put it like this Im smoking Chevy 5.3L. Dodges won't try and race me neither will my ford friends I see on the highway with the 5.4 Tritons, but my good friend with the 2000 lightning (after he smoked me) complimented me on my truck actually getting close to him and not a year later. Ask questions if you got them.
I have the 4.2 also and the truck is very sow off the line, but it is true with the powerband cause u can really feel it take off. THe thing that i have with the engine is the shifting. I dont know if everyone has this problem but in my truck it feels like it doesn't shift quickly. It shifts and then like throws u back ,it is hard for me to explain but if u have this same problem you will understand. I also have flowmaster 40 series, so i dont know if thats the reason. Has anybody corrected this problem.
Yes the factory shifting is a little slow and dosen't really take full advantage of your rpm's. But the chip I mentioned changes your shifting points, increases your rpm limiter and a number of other things. Just look into the chip see what you think, it is really worth it.
Are there any bad things that come of using the Diablo chip. My truck is pretty new and it only has 9000 miles on it. I want to get the chip now but will it reduce the longevity of my motor.
No, not at all. The chip is made to produce performance and performance should always be smooth to create a smooth running vehicle that uses all it's components to the fullest. If your not using all of your hosrsepower then there is usually something wrong. The chip even improves your gas mileage a little bit. Check out motorhaven.com and e-mail Ken all your questions with as much info as possible he is a great programmer. I have notice that in some of the newer model if f-150 there are complications but I haven't really check it out. It is on the website and if you have more questions e-mail I have always had a response the next day. Good Luck.
