I have a 2000 Ford F-150 and I was trying to program and key fob to the pickup. The pickup does have a theft light that works properly on the dash. When I got the pickup it never had a key fob with it. Do I need to put in a aftermarket or am I doing something else. I have tried turning the key eight times in 10 sec and it doesn't due anything.
it may not be remote ready. if cycling the key did not lock/unlock the doors, it probably is not. this leaves you with either having ford put a unit in for real big bucks, or having an aftermarket unit like the viper installed for around $200
I have a plain jane work truck xlt manual windows and locks.
If I bought 2 door actuators ($45ea) and the wiring harness ($45) could I use a ford or generic imitation key fob? The key would turn the ignition but would the power locks work? Ford said I may have need the spanner tool but it should work.
Anyone needed to do this? even aftermarket with labor is over $400. $75 per door (2). I really just want 1 key fob not 1 key and 1 fob. I know compustar and viper work 1 mile away and has remote start, but I can get the remote start key from ford aswell and I only have 2 keys and point cards on the key ring.
