96 F150 4.9L 4X4 M50D Manual trans with the concentric slave cylinder. I think I bled the clutch system OK. I closed up the system, and removed the rubber piece on the trans so I could see the slave. When the clutch pedal is pushed, the slave pushes forward and moves the fingers on the clutch cover plate about 1/2 inch. Is that adequate? What is the distance I need to see the slave push forward?
Just wanted to bump this from being buried on later pages to see if any of the morning posters might know. FTR, with the 1/2" movement of the slave, the clutch engages immediately upon beginning to lift my foot off of the pedal. In other words, I push pedal all the way down, shift, and the clutch engages that gear within the first inch or so of pedal release. This is first time out with new rebuilt trans, so maybe this is how it is supposed to react. I don't know.
Hi, I can't help a lot here as I've never watched the slave cylinder move as you described. Given the tight spaces in there, it should be acceptable. Main idea is that it engages and disengages the clutch disk properly. If that feels ok, I think you're set. Additional bleeding never hurts but I don't think it'll change much for you here.
Just make sure you have fluid up to the fill line in your master cylinder. I was having the same problem with my truck clutch engaging immediately. I was very low on fluid. Topped it off and now it engages the clutch at about an inch or so from floor.
