2006 Escape Limited with Complex Electrical Issues
1. Cruise Control failed while in-use several years ago.
2. Tire pressure monitoring failed at a later date- not one wheel at a time, but all at once
3. Driver's door cannot be opened using the remote fob or the external keypad, or the passenger side button, but it can be opened externally with the key, or internally using the door handle. BUT IT CAN BE LOCKED using the fob or any of the usual means
4. Recently, I had a situation where the battery was being drained rapidly. Pulling fuses, I found that the Smart Junction Box was the culprit. I found nothing wrong pulling the fuses that are on the Smart JB though. There was no fuse that stopped the drain when pulled. This issue still exists.
I'm not sure that the SJB can be blamed for all of these issues, but I'm convinced it is at least partially to blame for the drivers door lock. I don't understand where the radio frequency functions take place for the tire pressure monitoring and the key fobs. The Cruise could just be the unit itself.
Any ideas?
The door lock is a flip-flop type thing. The + and - are reversed to perform the reverse operation. I think it is done with relays that operate to flip the + & - leads to the lock motor, or relays perform a switching operation like power window switches. If one set of contacts dies .. you lose that 'direction' of the lock. OR it could be internal switches part of the SJB.
The cruise may or may not be part of the condition, but you could check for VSS operation( Vehicle Speed Sensor - name to be changed on next whim from Dearborn) using a scan tool to see if the SJB is getting the signal...
Everything seems to point, in my thinking, to a SJB that is on vacation...
