Hey guys I'm in the process of fixing up a 78 F150 farm truck, my first pre 90's vehicle, and the forums have been a great help; Is there a way to prevent the shifter on the steering column from being utilized while the truck ignition is off or without the brake being depressed? I would like to prevent people from screwing around and moving my truck easily(the lock is currently broken). So is there anything I can add to the column? I assume there wasn't a lockout feature in 79 like there is for all the cars today. Thanks in advance.

Just lock the doors...or is the door locks currently broken? Fix them... or get a ol style "club" and put on the steering wheel?? Yes they could still put it into neutral and roll it.
Bolt a short piece of chain or cable to the floor, using the forward seat track bolt, and then loop and chain it thru the steering wheel when parked. They might get the hint then?
NO you are correct there is not a "press the brake to unlock the shift column ability" option like new cars/trucks.
Where do you live to have people "screwing around and moving my truck easily" ? Some people would say put a firm "boot to ****/fist to face" to the 1st person you catch doing that to your truck. Sounds like some high school parking lot BS to me.

Slider lock bad... get some 1/4 bar stock steel rods and cut to length to fit in the groove the slider slider open in. Bend a 90 to have a handle to remove the rods easier.
Thinking about it more I guess you could take a piece of 4" long piece of pipe the same diameter as the column. Split it in half, hinge the one side, paddle lock tabs on the other and cut a notch so it slides over the shift lever. Then closes and locks???
Thanks all. The neighbors young kids got in the truck and were playing around, they had it in neutral and it rolled about 3 feet. They've been warned and I have parts for the lock coming. Just
