They attach to the rocker panel in a similar fashion to the OEM nerfs (I ripped one off on the trails in the desert). They are not cheap but are 1/2 the Amp steps (I put a set on my dad's Chevy and they are VERY nice but out of my price range).
I got mine from Amazon because it had free shipping but the above links give a good idea of the features and picture of what they look like.
I get some additional ground clearance AND they won't rust if I drag them while I'm off-roading.
I think it is odd the way they just hang on the rockers the way they do but there is no give in them when being used. Is it possible that these aftermarket sets are made to bolt right into the OEM brackets?
It uses the same top holes as the OEM nerf bars but uses the holes at the bottom on the pinch weld instead of the holes a few inches below the upper holes.
It's very solid and has very little give to it. Much nicer than some that I've seen that mount to the bottom of the cab bushing mounts. I would have liked OEM but I get more clearance and I couldn't find anyone with some for sale that wasn't the dealership (and for those prices I would have gone the AMP route!).
I've been very happy with them and the T-304 SS won't rust when I scrape it on the trail.
Bringing this one back up but I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for. Will the OEM step bars fit any superduty year from 99 to 2016? Specifically for the CrewCab.

If looks are more important than function, then you will want to pass these on by. But, these are by far the best running boards I have ever used! You will not slip on these! The price showing in the link is for the short ones. The mounting brackets cost extra. They are not cheap, and not the easiest to install, but they aren't too bad. A helper would make it easier. The steel version will get surface rust in a couple years. I have the aluminum version which costs more. (If I were to get the steel version, I would paint them with something like chassis saver before installing them.) For my CCLB truck, everything was around 450.00. The only drawback to these, when a rock comes off a tire and hits them, they make a noise. Not a big deal. Besides, it's better they hit the bottom of the running boards than the side of my truck!
Anyone ever used these Bully hoop steps? Pros / cons?
I had the n-Fab bars on mine. They are the ones with the stirrups (Manufacturers of high quality Nerf Steps, Prerunners, Harley Bars, Light Bars, Replacement Front Bumpers, Rock Rails, Rear Runners, Tire Carriers & Truck Accessories). I ripped my OEM nerf bars off while off-roading. With the higher profile I was looking for body clearance while on the trails. I H-A-T-E-D them! The small stirrup/step area made it almost impossible to use. I had to step on them at an angle (not enough room in the gap to put my toe through in Nikes let alone work boots). If I didn't step directly on top of the pad my foot would slip...and that was dry. Any moisture and it took a conscious effort to use them without slipping off. My wife and kids slipped and banged their shins/legs numerous occasions.
I had a tire blowout last fall that damaged the bars and this is what I got to replace them: Raptor 6 Inch Stainless Ovals Ford F-250/350/450/550 SD Crew Cab 1999-2016. I love them. Best bars/boards/ovals I've ever had. Ovals are high enough for ground clearance and the step pads are huge. Wet or dry they provide great traction for anyone getting in or out. They come narrower than 6 inches for a lower price.
