Step Bar Suggestions?

It's time to replace the step bars on my truck. Any suggestions on what's good and what's bad?

Thanks,
Mark

Hard to beat the fit and quality of OE, IMO. Try CL and local 4X4 shops for take offs, young guys yank them off all the time when they install a lift.

An offroad-friendly idea I've been toying with is stirrups, one beneath each door. Hung by some nylon webbing they'd be weatherproof and flop out of the way for clearance. Just need to calibrate the strength of the nylon webbing or bolt so it will hold for your 300# brother in law but let go if a root or branch grabs it.

I always thought those were overpriced and weren't worth it. But we put some on the wife's truck and I do have to admit they are pretty nice.

Those AMP's look great I'll have to think about shelling out that kind of money on them a while.

I bought the cheap SS aftermarket bars to replace a pax side OEM bar that was ripped off during shipping and am not displeased with them. Time will tell how they stand up to abuse and weather but I don't see how you can go wrong for less than $150/ pr shipped.

SS=stainless steel? Where did you pick them up at? Price is good.

On ebay. For that price they are actually SS alloy, and chromed, but they look pretty good and take the weight of the ex.... so pretty strong.

I would agree that AMP Research is one of the best options, available on the market now. They are definitely worth their price. However, there are a lot of other step bars worth attention. You can check all of them here: 1999 Ford F-250 Running Boards | Nerf Bars | Side Steps

Wrap Up

That was one good vendor at 1999 Ford F-250 Running Boards | Nerf Bars | Side Steps They have good selection and easy to use website. I got the http://www.carid.com/1999-ford-f-250...ct-details-tab in stainless steel lifetime guarantee. Not the cheapest, not the most expensive but looked similar to what is falling off the truck.

Merchandise came fast. I took the old step off well...it half fell off got the new ones not a day too soon. Had to grind one bolt out on the old bracket and...whoa...it looks like the new ones might...could possibly...one in a million chances...bolt right onto the old brackets. Come on now, I'm getting old and it is about time something went better than expected. Murphy follows me like a shadow but I really do deserve a break. Right?

Tape measure says they're close enough. So I get started and aaaa crap, both of the new step bars are dented.

Looked on website for return requirements and they want pics so I take pics, fill out form requesting another set and viola next day E-mail received new set is on the way already .

All I have to do is leave old box out front with note that it's for return and next day it's gone with UPS pick up notice left behind. New set arrives in a couple of days. Open it up, no dents and I check to find perfect fit on old brackets...not just "close enough" either, perfect fit! How did that happen??? Someone in manufacturing has made a humongous error and let this one get by them somehow. They have failed in their obligation to make life as hard as possible on the motoring public. So...I load the mounting bolts up with never sieze (however it's spelled) and bolt 'em on. Looking good in about 1/4 the time I expected.

Great review! Looking at adding bars to mine and after that kind of customer service I'll keep these guys on the radar.

Thanks!

I have been loosely looking for a while too. I have a CCLB and thought the wheel to wheel bars might be nice for reaching up into the bed or truck box from the side. Anyone running wheel to wheel?
