Step Bar Suggestions?
An offroad-friendly idea I've been toying with is stirrups, one beneath each door. Hung by some nylon webbing they'd be weatherproof and flop out of the way for clearance. Just need to calibrate the strength of the nylon webbing or bolt so it will hold for your 300# brother in law but let go if a root or branch grabs it.

On ebay. For that price they are actually SS alloy, and chromed, but they look pretty good and take the weight of the ex.... so pretty strong.
Merchandise came fast. I took the old step off well...it half fell off got the new ones not a day too soon. Had to grind one bolt out on the old bracket and...whoa...it looks like the new ones might...could possibly...one in a million chances...bolt right onto the old brackets. Come on now, I'm getting old and it is about time something went better than expected. Murphy follows me like a shadow but I really do deserve a break. Right?
Tape measure says they're close enough.

Looked on website for return requirements and they want pics so I take pics, fill out form requesting another set and viola next day E-mail received new set is on the way already
.All I have to do is leave old box out front with note that it's for return and next day it's gone with UPS pick up notice left behind.
New set arrives in a couple of days. Open it up, no dents and I check to find perfect fit on old brackets...not just "close enough" either, perfect fit! How did that happen???
Someone in manufacturing has made a humongous error and let this one get by them somehow. They have failed in their obligation to make life as hard as possible on the motoring public. So...I load the mounting bolts up with never sieze (however it's spelled) and bolt 'em on. Looking good in about 1/4 the time I expected.Merchandise came fast.
