Ok, I've got some rookie questions. I've had my 2005 F250 crew cab short bed 6.0 diesel Lariat for one week. I've tried the search feature and got some good info but it seems a lot of questions go unanswered. I hope mine won't.
First off, my headlight/fog light switch illumination. It worked one night so far but only when I jiggled the switch. The fog light indicator always lights up but that's it. I assume replacing the switch will fix this... I read about LED upgrades and such but couldn't find any basic switch removal and replacement pics or instructions.
Secondly, the dash back light behind the two temp gauges doesn't light up. The needles do, but not the gauge back light. Removing the cluster seems pretty easy, I even found a video that shows it can be done without unplugging everything else behind the dash. But no one can seem to agree on what size bulbs I need... I'd rather not do this twice. Since everytime you remove old plastic you risk cracking it. And again, not interested in LED upgrades.
Next thing is the trim panel under the steering column, it is loose on one side. It appears to be missing a clip but I can't seem to find it online. Is my only option ford or a salvage yard? Seems kind common as when I was truck shopping most of the trucks I saw pictured seem to have the same problem.
All and all its a great truck, but I'd like to get it "right" since its new... New to me at least. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance....
My headlight switch doesn't light up either (the fog indicator does, though). I read somewhere that the bulb is internal and not serviceable unless you crack plastic to get at it. You could possibly replace the switch.
There's a fuse panel behind the panel under the steering column. Probably why it's been off enough to get damaged.

PK, so Changing the headlight switch seems to be the way to go... thanks. As for the clip, that makes sense but is there a source for it aside from ford or a yard? I've searched dash clip on ebay with no satisfactory results...
Its called a lower dash kick panel and I doubt you can find a part from Ford. There are lots of SDs which have been wrecked, pick up two clips while you are there.... You may also consider a same year, light switch from a SD at the wrecker if its low miles, I bet that it will work just fine and lots cheaper that the new part. One of the Ford parts vendors on here like Tousley might be able to get you a good price. As for the lights in the dash, sorry, I have never had mine apart on this truck, touchwood, but its probably pretty simple once you get in there. Again, the ford parts counter might be able to show you a blow up of the back and give you bulb numbers. If I were you, I would replace every one back there so you dont have to pull it apart to many times. I learned this on my old 78, I could tare that thing down and put it back together in no time. This ones definately much more to it.
Thanks for the help, looks like there is 3 types of bulbs it could be, I'll just buy a box of each and return what I don't need. As for LED's I get what you're saying but these bulbs last a long time. I only had to do the ones in my bronco once in 15 years.
LEDs in the cluster = pain in the ***.
I'll look and see if I can get you the bulb type #. I did not like the LEDs because
most are forward lighting and not side. In the cluster you need the light to go to
the sides of you get hot spots. When I did find the incandescent I had to pick
from the 0.8 w that were in there or move up to the 1.2 w. That really lit things
up well.
Now for a hint. Use the lower wattage for the cruse control light. Unless you
want to bask in the blue glow at night.
NOTE : If I bound the right lamp it should be a # 74
When you buy look at the wattage. I got the
higher wattage for all but the warning lamps
and the cruse control on lamp. Makes is really
nice and easy to read that way. If you buy they
from ford they do include the holder but they are
way out in the crazy price zone for one and are the
lower wattage.
