Front axle question

The PO put a different front axle in my 48 F1 that is roughly 3" to long causing the springs to not sit properly on the axle. My questions is would a used axle (if i can find one) be ok, or just I just spend the money to buy a brand new ?

I currently have a 351 Windsor, auto tranny, disk front brakes, 15" wheels, planning to make a daily driver on the streets with light hauling. Nice looking but no show truck.

I don't think you will have any trouble finding a used one hopefully close to you. Many guys have chosen to go with a Mustang 2 fronts, which leaves an unneeded stock axle sitting around in the shed or garage. If you do go with a used one I would replace or at least check the wear on the king pins. It would also be a good time to check tie rods, drag link etc. Best of luck.

Worst case, an old axle might need to be bored oversize on the spindle bosses, but O/S kingpins and bushings are readily available. Finding a shop to do it could be an issue.

I'm not sure where you'd ever find a brand new front axle for a 60+ year old truck. There's literally thousands of used ones out there. It's doubtful you'll ever have a problem locating a good one.

Thanks for the input. I figured on new king pins no matter what I did. Guess I will run a post here on fte in parts wanted, I didn't even think about all those axles being replaced.
