Question Power Steering Gear Box Question

Got a quick question for all of you.
I recently picked up a beautiful 1996 F-250 4x4 CCSB 7.5L and I am working on the front end. I am replacing all of the leaf spring bushings, stabilizer links and bushings, and shocks. I also removed the exhaust manifolds to have them machined because who ever rebuilt the motor put in gaskets and they leaked like crazy. Also, the steering box has some play and the high pressure hose leaks at the 16mm swivel fitting.

Ok, here is my question. I have searched about what would be my best option for a replacement box and have found a couple of interesting items. A lot of people seem to be happy with the RedHead boxes. I also have read that some of you have went to the newer '4-bolt' cap style.

Do you think the '4 bolt' is a better box? They are a newer design and have read that they will be direct bolt in. I know the fittings are different, but I can deal with that. I also know that I have to make sure I get a box with the correct pitman arm shaft. I just want a good box that will last me a long time without having to do it over again.

BTW this forum has been the best help so far with working on my truck. I just want to say thanks to everyone here for all the great posts and information.

Matthias.

That's what I have heard. I want to make sure it is worth the trouble and cost of changing lines. Although, I have to replace the high pressure line anyway because it leaks. I don't mind spending a few extra dollars and extra time in work to get something that will work better and last longer.
And If I go with the '4-bolt' cap style, do you guys recommend a RedHead box? NAPA recently switched away from Cardone. I forget what the counter guy told me they use now but he said they have had good luck with them and they include a lifetime warranty. RedHead is only a 1 year warranty and some guys have started to have bad luck with them?
Thanks.

For those of you that have replaced their steering boxes, what have you used and how have they held up?

I've had good luck with Lares rebuilt boxes. Advance carries them or you can buy direct (more $$$). Rock Auto has the best prices I've seen but the shipping kills the good price IMHO.

Well, I went with a RedHead 1997-2000 FORD SUPER DUTY POWER STEERING GEAR with the 32 spline sector shaft and 4-bolt cover.
For the power steering lines, I bought a new high pressure line and return line for a 97 F-250 (After Aug 10 1996) with the o-ring fittings. My old high pressure line was already leaking so I would have had to purchase one anyway. So, my only extra expense was the return line ($22).
Everything bolted up and the hoses fit like they were supposed to be there (other than adjusting the bends to fit correctly).
The steering is nice, smooth, and tight.
