Steering Box
The steering box on my 81 F150 2WD has some slack in it. I have had the front end aligned. All front end componets are ok. Replaced radius arm bushings. New front shocks. The alignment shop wouldn't tighten the adjustment bolt on the box. They said there was only a couple of threads left and wouldn't adjust it. The truck has wide tires on the front. Most of the bump steer is gone, however she still requires a consdierable amount of steering wheel input. On a strong windy day she will wear you out. Is there a later model box I could get from a salvage yard to replace it with. The truck has power steering. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I bought a reman box for my 84 a couple years ago from Advance Auto... I want to say it was around $190. Make sure you bring your old box in when you get the new one... the core charge is pretty hefty. I can't remember how much it was but I nearly filled my drawers when they rang up my total.

Don't go to a bone yard, How do ya know the boneyard one is worse or better than yours? Why go through the replacement procedure just to find the boneyard one is worse. Get a rebuild, it's already got the pre-load set. I just did the box And Pump for under $200. (also put in a rerurn line filter)
