AirBag OCmpressor- Location

Wife got me the Airbag setup I have been eyeing for my Birthday. Where have you guys mounted the compressor for them in the Ex? V10, 2wd model. Just the small black box compressor. I was thinking maybe in the rear AC hatch?

Depends on how you want to use it I guess. I'd want it on the frame rail. They are noisy and slow.

I've installed many if the larger Firestone setups. Always on the frame rail, but position the relay if used so that road spray will not fill the housing of the relay. That's the only issue I've had in several years.

The style you may have might be more concealable mounted inside the cabin though.

I have mine mounted on the inside of the frame rail directly underneath my drivers seat for the last 7 years without any issue.

Well if you guys are telling me that its waterproof enough to go under there, then I'll do that! I was thinking that outside the cab was best and I think I'll go with the frame rail.

I got in the front bags so now I just have to find the time between work and everything else before summer really hits in Phoenix. We already had 96 on Friday

I use my kids bike pump, so it's stored in the garage

I only use my bags when I'm towing which is only about dozen times a year.

I see that a lot of compressors use a threaded fitting at the air intake. Seen in videos that people mount compressors on the frame and add a section of hose to the intake with the filter on the other end of the hose. That allows you to mount the filter up high in the engine bay, or somewhere else that is cleaner and dryer than the frame rail. Just food for thought.

I started the install today. Bags in the rear are on. I don't know about any location I've found. Under the driver will get all sorts of road splash up from the front wheel and this thing has zero water proofing. Its loud so inside might be too much... Frame rail is the same I found spots but it will get drenched from the front tires.

How about making a bracket out of angle and mounting some sort of splash guard to it (piece of plastic mud flap?). Mount it just ahead of the compressor.

Can you go on the inside of the frame rail, basically under the drivers seat floor pan?

I mounted mine underneath the rear AC compartment, and put the gauges in that compartment, facing the vented door. It's been mounted this way at least 10 years.

Mine is in the rear jack storage compartment. I ran a wire up to the front on a switch to run it to fill the bags. I used to have the same compressor under my old conv van below the drivers seat. It has been over 10 years with the same compressor with no issues.

I have considered the jack area in the back but have concern over how loud it is, but then again its not used all that often.
