Some one tried to break into my truck. They broke the passenger side vent window.
Well I ordered a new window and cant seam to get the new glass to sit into the metal retainer bracket that holds the glass.
It appears to have some sort of rubber channel in it but its so old that its brittle. Where can I find a new rubber channel to sit between the retainer bracket and the glass window.
Or are there other options that I am not exploring. Ive look at LMC and DC.
Hey ND, not trying to hi-jack a thread here, but any idea what part keeps the wing window from flopping in the breeze? 353186-S? "Something" broke down in there a while back and the drivers wing is inop.
Look at 21608 - Front door vent window frame - do you see the threaded stud sticking downward from that piece? If it snaps off then the vent window swings in the breeze - won't stay open by itself going down the road. Wind forces it shut.
Double-Oh7 and others have fixed theirs by welding and grinding a new base to the stud and riveting it in place. Mine was broken and I chose to go with a NOS frame instead. You can see one weld technique here.
Another cause could be the nut on the bottom of the threaded stud has backed off far enough - or fallen off - such that the pivot spring no longer maintains pressure to hold the window in a set position. If the nut falls off then the spring could also fall off.
Wing windows - love to hate them. Seem to be the easiest things to break into on these trucks and cars of the 60's. They do sell (I think on LMC and the like) the slide-on anti-theft parts for wing windows. Had them on my '56 F100 for a long time. Truck Parts and Truck Accessories
It doesn't appear LMC has the window tape ND mentions, but I have a couple rolls of it and get it from my local auto glass installer. They have big rolls in various thicknesses and will sell you as much as you need. You can measure the glass thickness and then the width of the channel and whatever is left divide by 2 to get the minimum thickness of the material. You want it to compress some, so add maybe .020 to the thickness for that. So, if the glass is .250" thick and the channel is .300 wide, this leaves you with .050 of space. So that divided by 2 is .025 thick material plus a bit for compressing it. They probably sell it in 1/16" and 1/32" or who knows what. You can usually compress this stuff a lot... within reason. I just checked Melvin's Classic Ford Parts and they have the glass setting tape there in these thicknesses, but don't say which is which and best for you. Gotta measure it.
Most glass shops will do it for you for nothing or a 6-pack if you bring it in. Takes them 1 minute.
Noticed my wing-bolt thread linked here too. What a pain that they don't re-pop the right parts, but I suspect if you buy all the attaching bits to the one they do sell you could make it work. The rivet spacing was not correct, which led me down the path of welding up my old one.
thanks for the info doubleoh7 was looking at the lmc versions in their catalog and was going to order one glad I didn't will rebuild mine like you did alos what kind of rivets did you use to put the bold assembly back in?
thanks mike

Nut with spring is where you adjust tension for proper window operation. Make sure its also together properly with the nylon washers.
Thought a few visual pics would help.
I got lucky and found NOS date coded glass.
