this weekend I plan to pull my 460 to refreshen all the gaskets to include front and rear seals. I have all basic tools and a torque wrench. What special puller and sealants do ya'll recommend for the job? Feel free to include any tips. I do plan to pull the engine rather than work in the engine bay due to the lift of the truck.
The auto parts store should be able to loan you a harmonic balancer puller...
You might look into getting FelPro's rubber gaskets rather than cork for the valve cover, oil pan, etc. Seals better for longer. Then some RTV in a few key spots when you're reinstalling (e.g. the joint between the block and timing cover on the oil pan gasket, etc.), and you should be good to go.
Also use a large bead of sealant rather than gaskets where the intake meets the block on the front and back and use rtv around the water passages on the intake gaskets. I don't recommend using the large metal intake turkey pan gasket for the intake manifold.
Head gaskets typically go on dry. Just make sure the surfaces are clean before assembly. I like to spray a clean cloth with carb or brake cleaner and wipe the mating surfaces off. You can also use compressed air after to make sure it is dry and dust free.
