hello all, im in the process of rebuilding my good ol 292 out of my 64 f250 4x4 and im on the final stages of completion but i am missing 2 block plugs in the rear of the engine where the fly wheel is at... i see another plug at the front of the engine that looks to be the same size but i dont want to pull it out... the machine shop pulled the plugs out, but was wondering if anyone knew what size and thread the plugs were
Alright thanks man for the information, ill copy and paste and get a picture of what i am talking about in a few minutes, there are 2 threaded plugs on the back and 1 up front and i have all my freeze plugs put in (talk about a pain in the a$$) i just dont want to get the front plug out because they put some sort of thread locker on it, nor do i thing i have the Allen head to fit it but if it comes to it ill take that one out and have it matched at the machine shop
Here is what i am looking at I took an up close picture and a far away one, the bell housing will cover this area and i took a picture of the plug in the front and what it looks like
Those should be standard pipe thread plugs (NPT), hard to tell from a distance but probably 3/8" or 1/4" NPT. They should be readily available at a hardware store. You can always return them if you get the wrong size on the first try, but you probably can tell when you see them. Put some sealer on them when you install, such as permatex non-hardening gasket/thread sealant.
