I have been working on figuring out a few things on my truck over the last few weeks. I have made a lot of progress, but this has me stumped a little bit. Any input would be helpful.
A little engine info. The engine is a stock 360, that is a factory reman from HiTech. I do not know any of the internal engine specs. I have an Edelbrock Performer 390 Intake, a QuickFuel SS 680 VS carb (a little over carbed I know) and a HEI Distributor from DUI.
Getting closer... This was the first time I have been able to start the truck from "cold" and not have to mess with the throttle. Simply pump it one time to set the choke, hit the key and she roared (ok, not really a roar...) to life. As the choke opened, I tapped the throttle and the RPM's kept decreasing just as they should.
I think the vibrating on the vacuum gauge is the attributed to the rattling of the PCV Valve. Just for kicks, I pulled the hose of the PCV Valve and the vacuum gauge immediately jumped to 20 and the vibrating needle was smooth as could be.
Is that normal, or does that mean there is something wrong with the PCV Valve? Or something else I need to look into?
From the reading I've done it's normal for he PVC Valve to cause the fluctuation on the vacuum gauge. The vacuum is good at 19, and the fluctuation may settle with a little tuning.
