Next time do what I did. I burned a hole in my credit card and when the steps arrived, I told her I bought them because they drop 3.5" lower than the OEM bars I have on my truck right now, so it will be easier for her to get in the truck once her knees get fixed.
Stewart
Hey Stewart,
I'm totally right now. I should have scheduled it, had them installed and brought it home with a damned ribbon attached. You'd think after 18 years together and nearly 15 years of marriage I'd remember that it's always easier to ask forgiveness.
The wife said she wanted the AMP PowerStep so I called a shop in Spokane and received a quote of $1550 + tax, installed. I didn't think it was a bad price as the parts seem to run right around $1200.00 most everywhere, as best as I can tell. Anyway, guess what she says when I tell her the good news? Seriously, guess...
If you haven't guessed I'm back to the drawing board. I'm needing to come up with an option for running boards that extend lower than the OEM boards. I've done some research on boards that fit but it's been difficult to figure out how much distance I'll be making up?
You know what they say. Happy Wife, Happy Life. Right?
Anyway - Help!
I have this funny feeling you contacted Titan Truck in Spokane. 0.o

That's a fair price.
After praising their customer service on here earlier I had the most absolute a..hole to deal with diagnosing a problem with the product at the end of an install two weeks ago.
It was approaching 5 on a Friday and he told "I'm not getting paid for this"
Then I was asked if I knew how to use a voltmeter?
The brain of the unit was bad, they next day shipped a new one on the following Monday after I talked with the manager and lead tech. I honestly think and hope that dude got fired.
The higher ups were very very apologetic. I still like and recommend their product as that was an isolated experience.
Note: if you buy the S.S. strip for the side, lube that track before you start sliding it in.
I really want some for my EX especially having and using the factory ones on the wife's Denali.

Hey Drunken_Unicorn,
I've seen their ads but I reached out to Custom Truck in Spokane Valley. They also have a shop in Coeur d'Alene. Any feedback for either (or another) shop?

Hey A Rodder,
I didn't think the price was out of line either. Although, if I were to have a similar experience with the a-hole, they would be so beyond unhappy. I do not tolerate that sort of 'service'. As you say, hopefully that experience is the exception and not the rule.
Chad, what the soonest special occasion coming up in her life?
Wedding anniversary, birthday etc....
Buy it and tell her you couldn't stand watching her have a hard time climbing into the EX.
The argument shouldn't last no more than a minute or two before she says, "wow this is much easier now"....
If you have one of her parents that use the ex, add that to the deal.... At 15years of marriage you will be fine. Ask me how I know lol... Married 29 years here

Michael - You're slick. I like it!
Mother's Day would be soonest. Anniversary is in June.
My FIL rides with me sometimes, he also has an Excursion a stock 2003 (I think) 6.0 PSD.

It sounds like a plan! You gots this brother, easy... Make sure it gets done a couple days prior, cover your butt and tell the father in law your doing it for her! Lol
Once done Stewart should just wipe this thread off the map.

Top that deal off with a professional detail job inside and out!
Let me know where you finally decide to get yours. There are a couple of custom truck shops in Spokane, but I only know the name Titan Truck, so I was assuming you got your quote there :-P
I really like where you guys are going with a way to justify the purchase. Epic.
Hey guys...coming late to this thread. i've been contemplating the Power Steps almost as long as I've had my 2005 Ex. I bought it new.
I actually like the height of the factory boards...so if the Power Steps were lower when deployed, I'm not sure I'd like them. Although the "cool" factor might make up for a bit of that!
For those that have the Power Steps...when they deploy...how high are they from the ground? My Ex is a 4Wd and the factory boards are about 12" from the ground.

That measurement is not accurate since lift, different springs, wheels, and tires will affect the measurement. Way too many variables.
However, your question is answered in post #20 where Michael responded with the measurements I asked for so I could ascertain where the steps would sit when deployed.
