Tachometer

Wanting to put a tachometer on 1971 f100. It has a 300 6cyl but not sure where or how to hook it up. Also any recommendations on a cheap dependable tachometer would be much appreciated.

Electric Tachs they have a switch for different cylinders 4,6,8 or wiring contacts for easy install, most are pretty dependable and easy to install.

But don't buy a big azz 5" one and mount it on top of your dash,

As to kind of make a statement of look at me, I have a tach..:

Why well it's like ringing the dinner bell to thieves to say come steal me.

Orich that's hilarious. I strongly agree besides the advertisements to thieves. I'm just not too crazy about the way it looks. Thanks for the advice.

A lot of people just hose-clamped to the steering column so it can be seen by the driver, but not making a "steal me" statement. My brother used a Sun Super Tach for his EB.

I found a small Eagle brand tach at my local scrap yard a couple days ago. It had a nice Rally-Pac look to it, so I may swing by and pick it up for dirt cheap later

Most have four wires, very easy to hook up.
Red- 12V switched power
White- dash lights
Black- ground
Green- Neg (-) terminal on the ignition coil.

Some people hook the white wire to the 12V switched power too, just to make it simple. It just means your tach will be "lit up" all the time.
Make sure the switch on the back is set to "6" for your engine. Good Luck!

Soooo, If I switch mine over to "4cyl", it should read double, right?

It would be fun to shift at 8,000rpm! Hahaha
