My experience with AntennaX and other "stubby" antennas:
-Loss of FM reception, which is to be expected with a shorter mast
-More fragile...they like to break off at the base where they screw into the truck, particularly during winter weather
-Over time, the wind causes them to permanently take on a curved shape if you get the "rubber duck" style
-Complete and total waste of $$$
I haven't noticed any reception loss yet, but I do live in a larger city. Also, yes, I could see the base breaking off if you hit it against something because it is more rigid than the stock antenna. The one I have is short and does not bend in the wind. I love it a lot more than the antenna on my truck that drags on my garage door and parking garages, plus looks the truck look dated.
Wandered into a different local parts store today and picked up a "universal fit" replacement. The guy there said I could try it out and if it didn't screw in could return it with no issues.
Well, the threaded adapter works good, and it look pretty much like the factory antenna, so I'll go with that. Was only $14 too, so that's nice.
I checked, and the adapter fits the stubby antenna I already bought too, so I have that option if I feel like a sleeker look.
That's one less hassle for me to worry about. Nice to get something simple taken care of.
