Bad injector O ring ?

So this question is about my 02 SD 7.3. I posted this in the 99-03 column. But I know my good buddies in the OBS section should be able to help since I've only got 1 response so far.

I've been running royal purple 15w-40 full synthetic oil in mu 7.3 f250. After 6000 miles and a 600 mile trip coming up I decided to change my oil. So I changed it. Added 15 quarts of fresh oil (including the filter). When I drained the old oil back into the jugs, it only filled 9 quarts total. ...

So I'm thinking 5-6 quarts of oil low? Holy Crap?! What could it be? I get tiny bit of blue smoke slightly on acceleration. But that's it. No other symptoms I can see. It's straight piped. AFE intake. And DP tuner

So in 6000 miles you never checked the oil!?

I'm thinking it's injector o-rings, but it's hard to say. IIRC the SD trucks don't have the regulated return fuel system on them like our OBS trucks do, so you won't have the telltale black filter. I'd check the turbo for excessive play as well, but if the turbo is tight and you don't have a lot of excessive blowby, then I'm thinking it sounds like you're on the right track with the injector o-rings.

How many miles are on it? I have 247 on mine and mine smokes blue at idle only when it's cold. When it's warm it's fine. I just did o-rings on my injectors an it changed nothing. I've always wondered if maybe a full valve job might be due. But yes orings is a good place to start. Never hurts to put new ones on

132000 miles. I did check the oil. It was 1 quart low about 3000 miles after I changed it. I'm just puzzled. But am keeping an eye on it right now

Or injector internal orings.

Too bad the SD section isn't so helpful...

In my opinion, you will loose waaay more oil than that in 6000 miles if the o-rings were bad.
Some motors just don't like certain oils.
I don't think I'd even notice if mine was 2 quarts low in 3000 miles, if you are 5 low in 6000 miles, I wouldn't think too hard about it.
Either change your oil brand, or just keep checking and add as needed.

My '96 never liked Rotella, it would consume 2 or 3 qts in 2000 miles. It hated Cenpeco too, drank about 4 qts in 1000 mile with that junk.
I switched to Delo, TCS, Wal-Mart, Valvoline, or anything else I tried and it was fine.

blue smoke on accell usually means turbo seal going

when doing turbo seals, cant hurt to do injector orings while in there and test each GP
