Truck has had ficm replaced. Had 2 injectors replaced one time and 2 more injectors replaced another time. After each time of them being replaced the truck ran fine in the city but when I took it on the highway after a bit it would eventually lose all power like it was starving for fuel. It would spit and sputter and maybe even die. But you could push on the gas pedal and there is no repsonse and Then if it I let it sit for a Few Minutes and restart or idle and then get back up to speed it may be ok. Any ideas on what is wrong? is it fuel pressure problems? Something else?
We need data from SG2, DashBoss? Even straight codes. Hard to know where to look. Do you have fuel filing the top fuel filter bowl with key on? Need someone to shut it off, should fill fast? EGR working, sensors cleaned, could be the combination of dirty sensors, or even turbo sticking. Codes is the best place to start. We can help then.
A good dealer will give you a print out if you ask. Or at leadt around here you get one from most shops actually.
A good sales gimic actually, makes the customer more willing to spend that $100.00 fee for pulling the codes and running the basic scan tool tests.
I have no way to check codes. I wonder about filter. I may try to change it after I see what the dealer says that I took it too.
I'd be looking into something to check codes and read live data to avoid paying someone. Once you have the right tool, it's really simple. It may also help you determine if he's trying to rip you off.
Took the truck back to the dealer had them go on a drive with me got the truck to replicate the problem. Tech took back out with gauges and computer Hooked up and the fuel pressure dropped significantly on the highway. Was diagnosed as a bad fuel pump. Got the pump off rock auto for 285 ish and new filters and waiting for them to put that stuff in and crossing fingers that all will be ok
You should also consider installing the blue fuel spring kit available online or at your local dealer.
My 2005 Excursion got the blue fuel spring kit back around 2009 after the warranty Expired. It had a little over 100K when it was done and I recently had to replace the spring at 177,620 miles. The spring had become tired and my fuel pressure was dropping causing low fuel economy and power. After replacing the spring, my truck had the power it should have had this whole time.
Having a similar problem with my ex....I was on the replace the filters path also. A new fuel pump would not be out of the question tho....209,xxx on the od.
Until you get live data monitors (scangauge, dash boss, etc), you can go to most auto parts stores (advance auto, oreillys, etc) for a free code readout.
Some will even allow you to Erase the code - to see if it returns shortly thereafter (indicating a persistent condition).
