This has bugged me for a while, but since the thing runs cool its never been a concern. Since I'm working hard to get the truck ready for summer fun, I'm looking at everything. With that, the damn bottle is never full to the hot or cold mark after a lot of running. I fill it up and it never seems to all come back. I don't see any leaks, no sign of head gasket problem, never over heats. Anybody experience this ??
i do not put any faith in those silly plastic overflow bottles that always leak. the one in my 88 has been empty for the past 25 years and well over 400,000 miles.
as long as the radiator is full, that is all that counts.

The '97 is a degas bottle (part of the cooling system) not an overflow bottle.

my '97 takes several top offs after cooling system maintenance to get it to stay at the full mark. but once it is there it is fine.
if you have no known leaks I would start with a pressure test, let it sit over night with the pressure tester on it. if nothing I would suspect the cap isn't holding pressure.
