How are ya'll doin, I am new member to the site and wanted to become a memeber sooner but I just returned from a nine month trip to the Middle East. I have a 1987 Ford F350 Crew Cab my wife bought for me when I was away. It has 4wd, the 6.9l diesel and the C6 automatic. She got it for 6000 with 115000 miles on it. It is a California truck and is really clean. I imediately put the Banks Sidewinder kit on it and also a lift and some new tires. I have been going through and trying to get all the bugs worked out but little things keep popping up, I currently have a problem with my Oil Pressure gauge and my front tank fuel gauge. They both have gone bad. The oil pressure gauge just stopped working on my way home from work, all the sudden in dropped down to nothin, so I immediately pulled over and the truck still had all the oil in and no leaks (really). The fuel gauge bumps around but never shows anything but empty. I am wondering if anybody has any advice as to what I could do to get them fixed. I have already ordered a new oil pressure sending unit, so maybe that will work. Well I hope to here back from you guys, I really like reading the forum. My father still has his F250 he bought brand new in 1986 with the 6.9 and still uses it as his work truck. I told him he should put the Banks on it but he already has a 2000 F250 PSD 4X4 so he figures his old truck is good enough for haulin around chainsaws and equipment tools and fuel. By the way he has about 350,000 on his truck and they are probably some of the hardest a truck has ever seen. Thanks for the help. Scott Beretz
Scott,
Congrats on your truck, and welcome to the forum. There's a lot of great info here, and I'm sure someone will jump on your problems before long. Lots of knowledgable folks.
Do you have a Haynes and/or Chiltons for your truck?...They cover a lot of the wiring/switch/sensor stuff pretty well, and can usually be found in the Barnes and Noble or Borders bookstores, if not from Amazon. Another good resource is the library.
Thanks for the help, I am going to see if my father will send me out one of his. I always remember him havinga couple of them for his. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to hunt down the problem and get her back up to speed.
You already went through the expense of getting the Banks system. Why not get a good set of gauges to match it? Good mechanical gauges (AutoMeter or the like) will never give you a reason to second guess yourself or the wiring of the truck. I think Banks even sells a few of the more specialized gauges (boost, EGT [exhaust gas temp]) plus the cluster that mounts them to your a-pillar. Just my $.02...
I will probably do that eventually so I was actually trying to get the factory gauges to work for now, I already have the EGT and Boost gaugt so my next gauge will probably be the transmission temp gauge. I would like to find a three gauge pillar so I can mount all three of them on the A pillar instead of under the dash where they are a little hard to read. Again thanks for your $.02.
I wanted to know where all you guys are mounting your gauge clusters. I have the Banks EGT and Boost gauge and plan on mounting them up on the A pillar, but I would like to get a water temp, tranny temp, oil pressure, and oil temp gauge set put together for the truck and I would like to know where youguys are mounting these gauge. On the dashboards looks like one option. Are there any factory mounting clusters available to put four gauges together. Scott
Hi,
Put my guages under the dash, all ISSPRO,oil (mechanical),amps, water temp & volts. They all fit on a mount a bit left of the ash-tray. Ford sending unit is really crap!!
