I6 Rebuild Advice Needed

First off, which engine do you have? What is your intended use? What transmission? Tire size?
Are you looking for all out power? Gas mileage? Daily driver? These all make a difference.

If you're asking about a 240/300 (which I assume) :
For starters, there really are only 3 intake manifolds available. The Clifford, the Offenhauser C, and the Offenhauser DP. Most go with the Offenhauser. A search should tell you the differences between all of them.
For exhaust, it's generally headers, or some manifolds from the fuel injected 4.9. The manifolds are regarded as a good way to go because they're inexpensive, easy to install/maintain, are stock and made BY Ford for the engine, and a vast improvement over the single log exhaust that came with the carb'd engine.
Carburetor: A 2 bbl carb, or a 4bbl carb. Your choice. A lot use an Edelbrock 500. The Holley 600 also works. Although, lately, I've had great success with the Holley 465, which I recommend.
Best of luck! Be sure to post up any specific questions you have.
thanks for your reply. how do I find out what engine I have? its a 300 inline 6. I plan on changing over to a 4 speed manual. currently its 3 on the tree. I chose to stick with my I6 rather than swapping out for a 352 specifically so I could get better gas mileage. that said, now that I have the smaller motor, I would like to get better power out of it. that was the reason I upgraded my cam. I am making a daily driver but the reality is it will not be my primary vehicle by a long shot. I will use it regularly but likely not more than 2x per week or so. always put away in the winter.
I was going to go with an edelbrock 4 barrel carb since the 2 extra barrels would only be used when I wanted it. can I buy these directly from edelbrock or do I have to go through a supplier? their website was pretty sparse when it came to figuring out how to buy from them. you like the holly over the edelbrock, it seems. why?
any advice given what I clarified above would be great.
thanks!

The 300 can definitely do much better on gas than it's large V8 brothers.
For what you're looking for, you'd probably be fine with a set of EFI manifolds over the headers.

You can also find some good deals on used, or even nab them from a junk yard for cheap. They don't normally crack, but it's always a good thing to check for if you get used.
A 2.25" or 2.5" exhaust out the back will also really help.
For the carburetor, most sites sell new Edelbrocks and Holleys.

It's not that I necessarily like Holleys over Edelbrocks, it's just what I've used. I tried several different carburetors, and recently switched to the Holley 1848 465cfm carb and it's just been great. I'm very happy with the results, so thought I'd recommend it.
A 500cfm Eddy may do you great, especially if that's what you're more comfortable with.

Clifford actually has 2 intake manifolds. One for a single carb, one for dual carbs.
