2001 f250 increase payload advice needed

I have a 2001 f250 supercab V10 long bed 3.73 w/ a steel flatbed and plow up front...

I bought it the other days to be used for plowing and Fire supression. I need to put a 300 gallon fire supression system in the rear and it will bring me to the brink and maybe over in my payload capacity. (Approx 3200-3500lbs)

Can someone help guide me in what are the weak links on this vehicle and instruct me on how I can beef up the front and rear for the tasks at hand....

I plan on changing to 4.30 gears, since this vehicle will never see the highway... Just our small farm...

Thanks in advance,

David

Its gonna depend on if you go over the rated capacity of the axles. If your at max or over your gonna need a f350 dually or 4x4 f450/550. But to help increase your payload since you will be loaded all the time id do add a leafs front and back. Will never blow like air bags and the lines since your going off road to put out fire, flames or heat wont hurt the add a leafs either. I did one custom bent long add a leaf in the rear of my f350 and it gave me approximately 700-800 lbs more payload

How do I determine the rated weight of my axles?

Is there a replacement part off a 350 or 450 that I can use for added leaf springs?

I think you biggest problem is what your truck is currently rated at. In 01 an F250 I believe is rated at 8600 or 8800 GVW. You will have to check with your state but I don't think you can change the GVW just by adding the parts from an F350/450/550. Your best bet would be to get a truck for the rated capacity you want to carry.

With the type of weight you are carrying I wouldn't suggest doing just add a leafs. Your best bet is to probably go to a heavy duty spring set up. New, thicker steel will make a big difference and that is what you will get from a heavy duty option. After new springs you can throw around the idea of having a secondary type of suspension whether that is air bags or a Timbren setup.

Definitely check your trucks ratings, don't want to see someone get in trouble or even worse, hurt.

The plow is a good idea. I would keep that...they could have used you in Boston. Good luck with the build.

OEM front springs 2,030 lbs., replacement part 43-818HD 3,900 lbs

OEM rear springs 3,000 lbs. replacement part 43-1263HD. 4,400 lbs

Sticker says rear gawr is 6084 and axle is C1

I am not sure what this tells me about the capacity of the axle...

Can someone please explain?

That means the rear axle can have no more than 6084 lbs on it. That includes the truck you fuel and cargo... This is also the same as a single tire F350 truck so again if your gonna be over that you need a F350 dually of jump up to a f450/550 truck

I understand that is what the number means, however you can put 450/550 leaf springs on as I mentioned above.... Will the axle handle this??? Springs are easy....

you have to subtrack the rear axle wieght of an empty truck from this number to get your payload weight avail.

the payload weight is a factor of the physical limitations of the vehicle.

adding springs and airbags does not increase your payload rating...

if you need a big payload...go f-450 or go dually f-350, both have bigger axles.

The front axle weight number, the rear axle weight number and the GVW rating are all legal numbers and cannot be changed, so just adding more springs to the axle doesn't raise ratings. You need to weigh the truck front and rear weights, go to a scale, then figure out the weight you will be carrying and if you exceed any of your axle weights or the GVW of the truck, then you might have to rethink your plan.

I understand the simple math of it all... And that GVWR is total amount allowed for the combination of axle and springs and wheels and tires... However, changing spring sets is easy... So are wheels and tires... So I am not concerned about that... Nor am I concerned about lawyer answers... Legal blah blah.... And I am not really worried about the frame...

I was wondering if anyone knows about the axle weight capacity of the Dana 50...

If not I can swap into a Dana 60...
