Hey all, I joined your fine community in Feb of this year and have followed along mostly taking ALL the information in. I have to say my head feels like it's gunna flat pop trying to catch up and learn all I can (and afford) about our beloved PSD's. I bought an '04 CC/FX4/Lariat (late build) and went to plug in the trailer, no running lights. Checked all fuses under dash, even replaced bumper plug, nada. I have L/R turn signals, brake lights, E-flashers, no running/ parking lights. I have good grounds (so I keep telling myself)? Something odd to me is I know the brake controller uses red/white/blue wiring, on the left side of engine bay towards firewall is same color wires cut off and tied??? Coincidental?
Any help would be greatly appreciated and gladly paid back in beer!, and any future help I can offer you.
Thanks and this really is the coolest places on the web, I'll keep reading.
One of the problems is there are so many fuses involved.
05 underhood box: 9 [20a] trailer tow turn sig. 20 [10a] trailer tow back up
201 1/2 relay trailer tow right turn signal/stop 202 1/2 relay trailer tow left turn/stop
Under dash box 101 [30a] trailer tow ebc 107 [20a] trailer tow batt. charge
301 relay trailer tow batt. charger 20 [15a] ebc 24 [15a] tow haul 28 [10a] trailer tow ebc logic 38 [20a] trailer tow park
Add in that sometimes a front light problem will affect the back
Is there a trailer brake relay under the hood back towards the firewall on the driver's side?
I've followed the brake wires (red/wht/blu) up and out they are simply cut off other side of fire wall? I'll re-check fuses ('04 has 4 possibles and 2 relays best I can tell.) Might go to U-Haul have them run their "plug in tell ya" machine. I'll stay on it, move trailer during daylight hours.
I just got that feeling "I know I'm forgetting something." Thanks y'all.
Those are upfitter circuits not associated with anything until they are actuall hooked up.
There as a convenience iff you want to add something[upfit] so you don't have to drill a hole in the firewall your self. I gave you a list of all circuits fuses and relays used on the brake system. Those wires may be the same color but not for brakes unless somebody added in a aftermarket brake controller.

You did, and thank you. All fuses were good, but of course worth checking. After going from plugs (in bed and bumber) all the way back, through dash and to fuse block. A brwn/wht stripe wire was loose at the 5th wheel pkg. plug. Wire snapped back into place, sealed er up and we're good to go. Thank you all for the input.
Glad Ya found it, sound like it was a booger to track down .
Danny,
The customer convenience wires are just pass through, primary colors, and flat cut on the ends and are taped to a harness near the firewall under the dash. The wiring for the upfitters are multiple colors some with stripes and have black terminations on the ends and are taped to a harness directly behind the under dash fuse panel. Two seperate groups. There is yet another group of wires associated with the high idle options that just terminate very near the upfitter wiring also.
Now I did not know that those are the only wires I have ever found not actually connected to something. So what I thought were upfitter circuits actually aren't for up fitting at all. So there are other circuits actually for upfitting?
The up fitter wires are connected to the four "upfitter" switches on the dash that seem to do nothing . Many trucks have them as an option but they weren't a standard feature. I think all of the trucks got the pass through wires.
Well that explains one thing none of the trucks I worked on had any switches there just blanks. Maybe why all of us at the shop thought those wires were for upfitting. LOL
Old dog learned a new trick today. LOL
I believe the unfitted wires ie for high idle, charge protect, ect are on all the units after 2003. There are some different colors and stripes in years and for the excursion. The up fitter wires were not present before 2000, that's why a high idle controller were needed in previous years. The other bundle of upfitter SWITCH wires started in 2005 tied up further over to the upfitter wires, so you could tie into the switches, ie for high idle. I don't know if the 7.3 diesels in the 2000 to mid 2003 carried the upfitter wires for sure. YMMV
Hey Rusty those switches or upfitter switches are functional right? I've also seen some 450/550/650 lower dash units that come with those installed? You know where to get them? Really thank you and danny, and mho for the help. Ended up ordering new harness from a local company here. Thanks again bud..
