Hey guys I'm having some electrical issues with my 99 f250. Here's some back round I parked the truck Friday after work and everything was off. came home Saturday night in my wife's car and notice my pillar gauges were on. When I got out I could hear my a/c fan was going. The truck started fine I took it for a drive since the battery gauge read low and my air bag, abs lights came on and a binging alarm noisea couple of minutes into the drive. When I shut it off I have to pull the fuse for the gauges to turn off. The weirdest part is when it's off I can here a computer noise. The best way to describe it is it sounds like a home computer that is trying to load a web page. (If that makes sense) I've look for melted wires or any signs of a short and came up with nothing. Please help! Thanks!
I'm with Nick, rain, wet snow, fog, heavy frost in the morning? Probably your GEM from the sound of it. The GEM is piggy backed onto the interior fuse box.
That's about the only way I know of doing it. I suppose you could try and dry it somehow and see if your issue goes away, but I don't know if that will work. It really is not that hard to pull out though. My first time only took me 30 minutes to get it out, and I have a manual tranny...
I'll give it a try. When going to replace the module what do I need to look for to make sure it will work for my truck? Ive been researching and found it has to have the same configuration as mine. Sorry I'm not very electric savy
I am not sure on the requirements for a replacement, I am in the process of that right now. Your best bet would be to pull it and get the part number off of it and buy one with the same part number. If you are going with new you will probably have to talk to a dealership as the same part number seems to cover all the different configurations, or at least that's how it appears online.
If you can get all your issues to go away though, I would test your windshield for leaks, and get it fixed if it leaks(most likely reason for water intrusion if it is your GEM having issues).
Heck, even if you have to put a new module in, it would still be best to get it fixed huh?
I have no problem replacing it if it is the problem I just want to be sure. I'd like to stay away from the dealer as much as possible lol
Everything is currently working properly except the dome light. But the navigation lights on the side will come on.. I don't get that.
We are getting rain tomorrow so idk if I should cover the gem with plastic or leave it alone to see if the water leaking was the problem?
I understand the dealer part, they are an expensive place to go....
That's good that everything is now working. The dome light could just be a burnt out bulb... If the map lights still work then I don't think any of the fuses could be blown, although I'll do some digging on that, just to be sure.
I would say maybe stuff a towel or something in there, then you can see if the towel is wet, absorb the water, and most likely keep the GEM dry.
