HD upgrade???

I am thinking of replacing the rear 6 lug axles with 7 lug axles on the rear and new 7 lug hubs along with 7 lug rotors and wheels. Has anyone done this?

Is that cheaper than selling this truck and buying a heavy duty model? I haven't made a swap like that.

Even if you have to replace all the bearings and brakes, I bet you'll come out much cheaper.

What's the purpose of the upgrade? The axles you have are perfectly capable of handling whatever weight the truck is stickered for... it doesn't matter what parts you swap, the sticker (and your legal liability) remains the same.

I would find it very inconvenient to have different bolt-patterns on the front and rear of the truck. Would mean you'd have to carry two spare tires. And as mentioned, you don't change the legal capacity of the truck.

How much load are you planning on carrying? what's the rating of the truck as it sits now?

I am thinking of upgrading the weakest link. which would be the wheels from 6 to 7. I'm not concerned with legality I just like piece of mind. 1773lb I want 2800. I was going to replace the front wheel bearings as well with 7 lug. Gotta have it all the same.

I'm not against this conversion. I just want to be sure you are going to get what you want out of all your hard work.

I was hoping to find someone who has modded their truck this way.

I already have airbags. I have a truck camper and the truck hauls it just fine but think the 7 lugs would give me extra piece of mind.

well wvabeer, I don't think this is a common conversion, but I wish you best of luck with it. Please keep us updated on your progress.

I always liked how someone could give you a piece of their mind, but what you really want for yourself is peace of mind. English is a funny language.

I think I found the perfect answer to my problem. And I can keep my truck stock. Incase you did not know the factory base wheels are only good for 2100 lb, the factory HD 7 lug are good for 2400 lb. These are good for 3200 lb each. The only diff between the 6 and 7 lug axles are the amount of lugs, same bearing, seal and anti lock dodad.
