. Tim can prolly suggest another of his pistons that will work... there's no other source... except using 351C pistons and rebushing the connecting rods to correct pin size...
Talked to Tim and his suggestion for an alternative was custom pistons. He had one set of 020 over pistons for the aussie heads left so I bought them and now have to hope that my block can be cleaned up at 020 over or I'll have to hunt down a block that can be.
Lots of 351c pistons would fit but with the 60cc-ish chamber size of the aussie heads there is no sorce for a 30+cc dish 351c piston to maintain a reasonable compression ratio.
I wouldn't go through all this trouble except for the fact that I already have fully reconditioned aussie head.
Aussie pistons are officially gone.
Jake snagged the last set.
I have looked at many off the shelf pistons, none of the pistons currently being made have a dish large enough for use in a 400 with the 302 Cleveland heads.
I thought about installing pin bushings offset to obtain our "Zero" deck height.
If you take the biggest dish (13cc) bush the rod, it would sit about .050" down in the hole, and still yield 10:1 C/R. If your going to leave the piston down in the hole that far, then why use the Aussie heads then.
A zero deck height pistons requires 30cc dish.
So why don't we make them anymore, the last set that Jake bought was manufactured April 2011. That is way to long for inventory to be sitting on the shelf.
Thanks for the help and the explanations Tim, I'll be ordering more parts from you as soon as I get my block in order or find one that will be good at 020.
