Coil upgrade?
I'm looking to replace the front suspension parts on my truck. It's got the quad shocks and replacing those would probably do, but I saw the custom coils in the LMC catalogue and am considering those. They're suppose to raise the suspension 1.5" without requiring anything else changed. I guess it's probably a bit of a gimmick, costing $180 odd when you can get the standard coils for considerably less and get coil boosters for $10. I like the idea of raising the front slightly to 'level' the truck (I will be adding slightly bigger wheels and tires at some point). Your thoughts and advice would be much appreciated.
Another issue is the drum brakes. How much drag would properly adjusted brakes have. I recently replaced all the parts. I got 17 MPG before adjusting the brakes - less than 14 after doing so. I took a few more turns off and am back between 15-16 MPG. With the rear on jackstands the wheels stops turning from 5MPH in about 3 seconds without using the brakes... Seems still too much drag to me, but during normal driving the pedal is a little spongy. Am I stuck with having to balance between braking efficiency and drag? Again, any advice is appreciated.
