I recently bought this Ford F250 6 with 117k... I've had it 3 weeks and it is now at 120k... My Odometer is reading Fast. From Tucson to Phoenix it read 302 mi, on my trip monitor it read 102 mi.. I've made this trip many times before and 102 miles is about right. Any Ideas? It's a big issue because I get paid by the mile.
Thanks. I'll try them.. Right now I'm more along the lines of " bad thing or very bad thing? ".
Look on the bright side - maybe you only have 40k actual miles on your truck! I can't imagine how the computer can be so confused.. Does your lie-o-meter say you are getting 35 MPG or 14 MPG? (won't help diagnose your problem, but I'm curious) IF you have a SG2 (or other ODB gauge/live data reader) you can watch your MPH and MPG in real time, and it helps you verify the PCM is correctly reporting your speed - which would support it being an instrument cluster issue.
That's hoping for the best and hopefully not receiving the worst news... My last truck was a 2004 slvrdo v8 5.3 1500 4x4. I bought it w/ 22k in 2008 and traded it in w/ 267k w/o any major issues. i kept it up w/ reg maintenance and definitely learned a lot and did most of my own work on it but with this F250 6.0 that I am hoping I may be able to do the same with this forum and people like you. Thank you for the response but being green on this truck, can you please through some Laymens terms my way?
Many parts houses sell SGII and some others. About $150 at Autozone last I looked.
Also can find many online. There are also smart phone apps as well. Torque pro for Android dashboss for apple and Forscan for windows. amoung others requires a bluetooth adapter for the phone apps. All available on line.
you said its new to you, so if the person before you had some monster tires and had the pcm set up for there size and you now have small tires on it it would throw it off a lot but i not sure if by the amount your talking about

But the trip meter is accurate.. so it's likely something inside the cluster since the PCM (the main computer) only tracks distance (not a separate trip meter and odometer)
Since my last post I drove around in town and it seems like if I stay 0-35 mph the odmtr reads correctly and if I go faster it goes faster. I am taking it to a local Mechanic Shop in the Mesa Az area. A place called Bullet Proof Diesel. I have heard good things about these guys. In saying that I appreciate all the Info and ideas given. It'll be nice not to go in there totally blind, w/ the info you all have shared I can now go in with some thoughts about what it is. Any other suggestions or terms given will be fantastic!
I don't know that they do. I'm going to run it by them and maybe pick up an EGR sensor and get a quote on a chip/computer system to be able increase the MPG. My buddy that recommended them is putting some $$$ together to put in his diesel. I'm hoping that they will be able to inform me on DIY fuel filter change, air filter change, oil change, and general maintenance information so I can stay on top of it with some preemptive actions to defer any major issues.

You haven't found a bazillion threads on here about:
- changing your filters/fluids?
- Fumoto oil drain plug?
- Upgraded HFCM knurled ****?
- Getting an ODB2 gauge (SG2, of one of the apps)?
- ALWAYs use Ford OEM Filters,
- change the oil every 5k,
- change the fuel filters every 10k?
Most folks drain and refill the trans vs. going to a dealer for a hot-flush (which they may or not have and/or actually use).
