I hope so as that is the market that I am shooting for on the next truck. Gotta go up to a 350 dually. Looking at a bigger 5er with more pin weight so we are starting to look.
If true I think it would have made far bigger headlines than what we are currently seeing regarding the next model year trucks.
I also have to say, thanks to the urea our engines are much more reliable and economical. I know the design of the 6.4 is radically different than these but still, no urea is exactly why the regen cycle was so harsh and the fuel consumption was so high on the 08-10 diesels. The SCR system is responsible for giving us far less egr load and 3-10mpg.
My thought on it, is that it isn't going to happen, because if anything the EPA is getting TOUGHER on diesel emission standards and I don't YET see the engine tech progressing faster than the EPA. Of course I could be wrong as I am not on the board or a fly on the wall in any of the board meetings of the major diesel engine makers. BUT again, one would think that would be big news.
I still wonder when will the HP in these motors "be enough" so that the improvements end up being marketing as. Ford's latest motor still makes the same HP as the outgoing model and gets 25MPG on the highway. More reliable and cheaper to make because they regens and DEF is no longer required.
It's still early here and I haven't had my first cup of coffee... So I realize I need to wake up now.
Compared to the gasser learning curve that started in the early 70's and wasn't really good till the late 90's, the diesel learning curve is only in the 1st or 2nd grade. Another 10 years and it should be there, hopefully.

Don't bet on it. The technology (IIRC) was developed by MB years ago. Its cheap and it works. In order to delete DEF they will need to find a substitute technology or license something. I don't see it happening, its got millions of miles and years of use and it works...

and the designs require ability to make and service 100's of millions of units.
these technologies cycle in slowly, cause there is such a huge impact on everything.
My BIL used to work for GM, and was responsible for plant tooling for body, and he would get designs that they just couldn't make with the equipment that they had in the plant. and its one thing to have ONE unit, and another to make 10 cars an hour non-stop
