64 steering column rebuild question
I'm going to take a 67 steering shaft and use it in my 64, but since the 64 is a solid shaft going all the way into the gear box, i need to do some cutting and connecting. I'm going to cut the original shaft coming out of the box and grind a DD end on it. Then I'm going to cut the 67 shaft to the correct length and put a DD end on it, also. i will connect them with a Heidts 3/4 inch DD to DD u-joint.
My question is, would it be safer to use two u-joints? I could easily do it by buying a 6 inch DD shaft and putting it between the shaft and the gear box.
I'm trying to avoid the shaft driving through my heart in an accident. That seems less than an ideal situation. Will the one u-joint prevent that?
