I had to put the spare on my 2008 XLT today and now have a "Low Tire Pressure" light. After a while it changed to "Tire Pressure Sensor Fault". I haven't check the air pressure yet, so I don't know if it is actually low or not.
A tire pressure sensor is malfunctioning, or your spare tire is
in use.
When Your Temporary Spare Tire is Installed
When one of your road tires needs to be
replaced with the temporary spare, the
system will continue to identify an issue to
remind you that the damaged road wheel
and tire assembly needs to be repaired and
put back on your vehicle.
To restore the full function of the tire
pressure monitoring system, have the
damaged road wheel and tire assembly
So I'm guessing by all that text, it means the spare wheel doesn't have a sensor. Actually, when I damaged the tire I also damaged the wheel lip a bit, to where I most likely will not be able to get the wheel cover secured. I was hoping to just use the bent wheel for the spare and put the spare wheel into permanent use. It looks to be identical to the other four.

Unfortunately, if in order to stop the TPMS Fault, you'll have to have the tire store swap the sensor from the old wheel, and reprogram the TPMS system.
I guess it doesn't matter. I found out that what I thought was a wheel cover of some sort, is more of a "skin" and can't be removed. The local salvage yard said they have a wheel for $100, so I guess I will pick it up tomorrow and head to the tire store.
