Mold!

Went out to take the trash out this morning and noticed that it appears the mold is forming all over the frame and body. Its also in the inside cab as i have no Windows. I done have a means to store it indoors and was told a cover was bad. Theres no seat in the cab. Just dash and cab. Its wet here in PA and I wont have an indoor means to store it for a few months. Is there something I should do or just a good washing when its warmer?

Unless you imported some of that there polar metal eating starter spore, I doubt it is mold. Get a tarp, cover your treasure - to save the floor, if nothing else - and get it indoors when you can.

I'm not sure where you are on a restoration stand point?

I would use a mixture of Liquid Tide and Clorox in a spray bottle and go over the mildew then flush with water, if possible. That is what we use down here in Texas to remove mildew from concrete, siding and most other items with mildew.

I just purchased it and it needs a ton of work. It might be something else, but theres a lot of green stuff that is all over the metal. Thanks for the advice on the mixture and the tarp.

I forget where your truck came from but I guess it was not used to the humid/moist conditions here in PA. And those spores were just waiting to grown with the temperature and humidity.

Why would a cover for your truck be bad?

Here in the NW, the mildew grows fast and we do the same thing, several times a year. I went one year without washing my Courier and it had moss two inches thick on the frame rails!

Thanks for the advice. Im not sure why my buddy didn't recommend a cover but I assume its because he doesn't deal with moisture like me. You guys recommend a cover or an actual waterproof TARP when im done scrubbing?

A cover will trap moisture under it. Whenever it is not raining, etc. pull your cover off and dry things out. Trapped moisture is worse than wet and dry, it is always wet.

Would a storage unit be economically feasible, cheaper than replacing, reworking damage?

If it's green it isn't mold/mildew (black or white) green is algae, grows on moist dirt in sunlight. As suggested wash with a mild bleach solution, then cover with a breathable cover, (I like the fitted outdoor fabric ones like "Noah" from California Car Cover) NOT a plastic tarp! Or else put under a temp portable or a permanent roof. Around here you can get an aluminum carport for ~ 800.00 or a fabric one for ~ 200.00.

Yeah, the 'moss' I described is algae, and we get mildew where it remains out of the sunlight. I have covers I got from the cover store for my trucks and my bikes, but since I have the use of the pole barn at work I have been a little spoiled.
