Here is one listing I found, another listing showed the axle ratio as 3.54 but that won't affect your questions. This axle has an open diff so you don't need friction modifier and regular 75w90 gear oil will do the trick.
53 = Dana 70 HD - Capacity 7400 - Ratio 4.56

I don't know much about gear ratios but I can say with the C6 I'm running about 2,750 RPM at 63 MPH on the highway.
When you say "open diff" does that mean it's not a limited slip or posi?
Because it seems like there is some chatter crawling up a grade with a sweeping right hand turn.

Well curiosity got the better of me so I paid the truck a visit, crawled under and found a rear axle tag.
3.54 gearing and not limited slip or locking, just like you said!
The code on the tag is 605300-1 and FWIW here's the Dana decoder site:

The AXLE code on the Certificaton Label is 53 but...in the Ford truck parts catalog, this refers to two different Dana 70's.
53: 1980/85 Dana 70 H/D / 4.56-1 / No Limited Slip / 7,400 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.
53: 1983/89 Dana 70 or Dana 70U / 3.54-1 / No Limited Slip / 7,400 or 7,800 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.
Beginning in 1959: IF the AXLE code begins with a letter: Limited Slip / If with a number: No Limited Slip.
