I have an '86 E350 Diesel I recently aquired. I filled both tanks and gage reads full. The switch was on the front tank and I drove forever, thinking hey, I'm getting great fuel mileage. Then I decided to switch to the rear tank which read 1/4 tank. So my thought is that the front tank is not feeding the diesel. Why?
Do I need a new valve switch?? Is there a test with a meter I can perform? Do I need another switch? BTW this switch is located drivers side just before the front tank. Thanks
GR8 thanks. I just drove to the store and again the rear tank is reading full, decided to switch tanks and lo and behold the front tank shows 3/4 full. I guess the wires are crossed because it appears that when the switch is positioned to the rear, it's actually feeding off the front tank and visa versa. .
I don't know which wires to switch but just as long as I can use both tanks, I'm happy .
So your fuel gauge and tank selector wires are out of sync.
I would think that was an easy fix. Perhaps someone on this forum could tell you where those wires are, one the back of the switch or a relay somewhere.... Then you could reverse them and all would be good :-)
