FX4 - Which blend door actuator?

The scenario:
2010 fx4 duel temp controls
My driver side works great (heat and AC). My passenger side does not cool or heat properly. Not sure about the back.

From what I have read this is most likely the upper door actuator...Which is what I was hoping because the lower one is such a nightmare. Am I on the right track here? Any suggestions or additional info pertaining to this would be great.

Thanks

T

It's the easy one - not to worry. As you said, the driver's side is mounted on the bottom of the HVAC plenum and requires the dash to be pulled for the re and re.

The pass side is accessed through the radio opening and glove box.

These actuators are dirt cheap due to them breaking all of the time. When Ford is on the hook for parts which fail frequently under warranty stuff gets darn cheap in a hurry ....I am a huge proponent of properly diagnosing things before firing the parts cannon, but in this case 45 minutes of your time and ~$50 for the plastic motor will likely do the trick. Of all the ones that I've seen go it's hardly ever the wiring of the HVAC module itself.

So I replaced the actuator. Pulled the fuse to reset. Started truck.. When I turned on the temp control i still have no temperature adjustment. The really strange thing is now the passenger side is blowing Heat where before it was blowing ambient/outside air! I checked part #s its the right one.

I have read a good number of post where this has happened but none of the post finalized a resolution! Somebody throw me a bone.

Thanks

Hi smithfield7.3,

Did you have your trucked serviced at a Ford Dealership? Your service manager would be in the best position to let you know which repair could be performed. How many miles are on your truck?

So You Wanna Help. OK

Crystal,

I checked to see what the repair would cost me if I took it to the dealer. It was more than I was expecting to pay. The control board was replaced today. Everything is working fine. The only way you could help me is to provide a rebate for the factory part I had to order.

From the research I have done.. Which has been extensive in my eyes.. Too many ford owners with this type of HVAC system will experience some type of HVAC failure. What really gets me is mine was more uncommon than the classic blend door issues that effects countless vehicles.. So I'm uneasy thinking about when one of those is going to fail next. The thought of having to spend more money on my HVAC system in the future makes me sick.

Overall it has been a good truck but if I have upwards of $1500-$2000 in the HVAC upkeep by the time I sell the truck I would consider that a monumental disservice to all ford customers.

Thanks for responding, smithfield7.3. I don't have the ability to authorize financial assistance, but if you'd like, I can document your feedback in our system. To make that happen, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, dealer info, and any details you'd like me to include.
